Is cardiovascular exercise (also called aerobic exercise) enough to keep us healthy?
I have so many patients and friends who tell me “oh I do plenty of exercise”… and when we we talk about the specifics of their program we find that they are waking, running, biking, or doing other forms of cardiovascular exercise.
Nothing can take the place of strength training! Nothing! It helps our bones, immune system, cardiovascular system, improves our balance, makes our clothes fit better, and people who are stronger, live longer! Aim to include strength training on 2 or more days each week.
1-3 sets of 8-12 repetitions is a great starting spot!
