Staying Positive isn’t helpful it’s Essential

There is one thing no diet or exercise program can give you that will be essential to successfully losing weight and keeping it off and that is a positive attitude. Now I know it sounds like nothing more than a cliché, it seems everywhere you turn someone is telling you about the amazing benefits of a having a positive attitude but I can tell you first hand succeeding on this journey requires you to have the right attitude.

The reality is this process is going to be hard on you. In fact if you are like me it is going to be hell. You are going to be undoing years of training and that isn’t easy. You are going to lose your source of comfort (food) and work your body in ways you wouldn’t of thought of a mere weeks ago. Here is where a lot of people give up, you are going to have plateaus, there will be days that no matter what you do the results just won’t be there.

How you get through this process is by bringing a positive attitude to the table. Remember why you are doing this, your health, keep focused on your goals and make sure you note your mile markers along the way. If you drop twenty pounds congratulate yourself, and reward yourself not with food like you use to but go by a new and smaller pair of jeans. Keep pictures of you at your biggest around, when you get discouraged compare pictures of you now to pictures of you then. You need to keep the reasons you began this process in the first place constantly in your head and keep reminding yourself as you go through this process what you are doing and why.

There will of course be times when your attitude for lack of a better word goes in the toilet. When that happens turn to your friends and support system to boast you up. I have half a dozen people who I discuss these types of things with and a have half a dozen other people who are there to keep my attitude up about my business. If you don’t have a good support system then go find one. Meet people at your gym, join a weight loss group or join a forum online just find people who understand what you are going through and can help keep your head up as you go through it.

Dealing with plateaus is a rather taxing experience in itself. You will need all the positive energy you can muster to get over these road bumps. Try to keep focused on the progress you have made so far and do not let a temporary setback undo the success you have achieved, and yes I know from firsthand experience that this is a lot harder than it sounds.
